Source:Stearns, Ezra S. History of Ashburnham, Massachusetts, from the Grant of Dorchester Canad a to the Present Time, 1734-1886, p. 898, says Joseph is the son of James Saplding and Hannah Barron, b. 1791. This would make him 17 at the time of the marriage, marrying a woman 9 years older. More research is needed to confirm this unusual situation. Stearns also says Joseph d. in New York about 1815, though his wife did not remarry until 1830 (published in 1829).
