"87. Joseph3 Humphrey, (Sergt. John2, Michael1,) married Abigail Griffin [Kelsey], who died 17 Mch., 1760."

"January 1, 1711, Joseph Humphrey joined in an agreement to divide land of 'our honored father John Griffin,' from which it seems that he married Mr. John Griffin’s daughter. The signers were: 'John Griffin, Thomas Griffin, Ephr. Griffin, Nathll Griffin, Ruth Griffin, Joseph Humphry, Elias Gillit, Mary Hoskins.'"

"Joseph (Humphrey), neither birth nor death record found; m. Abigail Kelsey who d. a widow at Simsbury 17 Mar. 1760, wrongly identified in the Humphreys Genealogy, p. 123, as a dau. of John1 Griffin. This is impossible as we have conflicting evidence for Abigail Griffin who was a much older woman. The evidence which Mr. Humphreys had was the deed of 11 Jan. 1711/12, in which Joseph represented his mother's interest, not his wife's. Records of the estate of Thomas Kelsey of Windsor (Manwaring, 2:243-4) indicate that his daughter Abigail was wife of Joseph Humphrey."
