The kind ladies of the Delaware List have given me some more pieces to the Hoover Puzzle!
It seams that the reason I could not find Sarah Smith's husband, Jonas Hoover in Delaware County,IN, is because they were divorced and he left the state!
Sarah A. Smith married Jonas Hoover on October 11, 1860, in Delaware County, IN.
But I do note with interest that in 1880 Sarah (Smith) Hoover was a dress maker in Muncie.
Living with her were her two children, Mary E. Hoover age 18 (born about 1862) and Emerson Hoover age 17 (born about 1863).
Now the interesting thing about this is that apparently shortly after their marriage they went to "Iowa"! I wonder where in Iowa, as she had two first cousins who lived in Marion County, IA.
Could they have left Delaware County, IN, for Iowa together?
Then in 1866, several members of the family left Delaware County, IN, for Minnesota. So apparently their stay in Iowa was rather brief!
On March 20, 1940, Nancy E. (Smith) Gibson was interviewed by the Munice Morning Star.
She told about the group of wagons that left for Minnesota including the wagon "driven by my brother-in-law, Jonas Hoover, and occupied by my sister and their two children." So the two children referred to in this newspaper clipping must be the Mary E. and Emerson Hoover listed above.
