  2.   There are several problems with the records on this family and there does not seem to be much coverage in the literature. It will require more research to straighten it out.
.) There is confusion over the birth of Susanna, there being one death record of Susanna in 1736, and no birth records. The common interpretation is that there were two daughters named Susanna, one that died as an infant, and another born on an unknown date (and no age at death to help). Given the date of marriage, either the second Susanna married before she was 18 (next Susanna could not be born earlier than 1737, probably later), or else the birth of the only Susanna was erroneously recorded as a death in which case she married a more typical age of 19.
.) The marriage is after the birth of the eldest child. There is no evidence John Tay married twice, especially both named Susanna. Possibly 1757 was misread as 1754, an easy mistake with certain styles of colonial writing.
.) There is a large gap in births. The above solution could fill part of it, but one would normally expect another birth about 1760.
.) Susanna (Pierce) Tay is mentioned in her father's 1769 will, apparently still alive, but the wording is somewhat ambiguous as to this since there is mention of funeral clothes and her husband signing the receipt.
