SCHOLTEN - John Scholten, aged 89, of Jenison, precious husband, father, grandfather and great grand-father, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, June 15, 2009. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 67 years, Stevena (Byker) Scholten; his daughters, Judith G. and Pete Staal, Linda K. Dykema; his grandchildren, Michelle and Kevin Hirdes, Todd and Cheryl Staal, Douglas and Tracy Staal, Stacey and Manuel Campins, Melissa and Tony Vander Ark, Alison and Chris Meyer, Lindsay and Brian Hart; 19 great grandchildren; his brothers and sisters, Gladys Warners, Gerrit and Connie Scholten, Jay and Elsa Scholten, Joanne De Koster; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Alice Byker, Rev. John and Dorothy Byker, Marge Byker, Beth Jansen, Dorothy and Jerry Van Manen, Loren and Myra Renkema; many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1:00 p.m. at the Sunset Manor Chapel with his nephew, Pastor Don Byker officiating. Friends may meet with the family at the VanderLaan Funeral Home Wednesday 5 to 8 p.m. and on Thursday, at Sunset Manor, for one hour preceding the funeral.
