Per marriage record, John Vines Meador married Mary Brazile in Greene County, AL. Land records confirm this union. Per the 1830 Census in Greene County, Jno Medder (Meador) and wife had two children under 5 years of age, a boy and a girl. No definitive proof has been found showing the son was Reason Meador, but there are no other likely alternatives. Reason is known to have been born in that area of Alabama in 1826. Obadiah Meador and his children are the only Meador family that can be found there that early. It can be shown that Obediah's other sons are not the parents of Reason.[2]

Reason Meador is likely living with his father John Vines Meador in the 1845 Pontotoc County, MS census. Reason traveled with and remained near Obadiah's daughter and husband, William and Sarah (Meador) Melton for many years and returned to be near them when they died.
