"John2 m. Sarah. Deane's History of Scituate says John2 m. Deborah Litchfield, but a deed recorded April 10, 1708 says Sarah wife of Grantor Released. Vol. 6th, page 155. As their first child was named Sarah probably Deane was wrong."

  2.   Source:Savage, James. Genealogical Dictionary of the First Settlers of New England, Vol. 1, p. , says John Cowing m. 1687 "Deborah Litchfield" but does not identify her. On Vol. 3, p. 98, under Litchfield, there is no Deborah listed. Savage's statement appears to originate with Deane, which has other errors in his handling of this family. In any event, neither give any reason to support their assertions and no supporting marriage record is found. Meanwhile, Source:Litchfield, Wilford J. Litchfield Family in America, 1630-1900 has several pertinent wills related to the Litchfield family and none of them, nor his summary of the family of Lawrence, named any daughter Deborah. Most to the point, 29 Oct 1674, Josias Leichfield is required to pay his sisters Remember Lewse and Dependance Leichfield their share of the estate of brother Experience Leichfield (telling us no sister named Deborah, and Experience had no heirs of his own). Given that there is no appearance of a Deborah in the family of Lawrence Litchfield, that the only son (Josiah) to have children did not marry until 1671, and that, according to Savage, Lawrence was "thot. to be progenit. of all of this name in N.E.", it does not seem that Deborah's maiden name could be Litchfield. In fact, as she is not named in any of the births of the children, evidence that her name was Deborah is actually lacking from this page.
