Jean Charles Rodrigue

Jean Charles (Juan Carlos) Rodrigue was born to Jean-Baptiste Rodrigue (1736-1803) and Marie Josephe Dervain (1747-1784)[2] [3] in 1764 in St. John the Baptist Parish. He died at 38 years of age on 27 October 1802, in Edgard, St. John the Baptist Parish, Louisiana, and is buried in St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Edgard (St. John the Baptist Catholic Church Records, V I, p 66)[5].

Pelagie Helfer (Elfer)

Pelagie Helfer (Elfer) was born to Maurice Elfer and Marie HoffmanS2 (p 325) in 1770 in the Louisiana German Coast. She died on 17 Jun 1845, in Edgard, Louisiana.

Marriage

Jean Charles and Pelagie married on 28 February 1786, in St. John the Baptist Church, Edgard, Louisiana[6].

This is to certify that Juan Carlos Rodriguez and Valaxi Elfre [Pelagie Elfer] were lawfully married on the 28 day of February 1786, according to the Rite of the Roman Catholic Church and in conformity with the laws of the State of Louisiana. [name of priest and witnesses] As appears in the Marriage Register of this church, Volume I, page 28?.

Inventory of the community property of the late Jean-Charles Rodrigue and his wife, Pelagie Elfer

No. 23. 4-28-03. Jean-Charles Rodrigue died a few months before this date and Andry now orders an inventory and appraisal of the community property in order that there might be a settlement between Pelagie Elfer and her children, namely: Jean-Baptiste (12), Firmain (10), Geneau (8), Edouard (6), Norbert (4), Celeste, wife of Louis Picou, Emerante (11), and Eelfine (1). Inventory and appraisal made by Andre Tregre and Antoine Vicner in the presence of the widow; Louis Picou; Pierre and Francois Rodrigue, brothers of Jean-Charles; Jean-Louis Laurent and Louis de Grandmont. First item appraised is a farm 3 arpents wide bounded above by the farm of George Schof and below by that of Pierre Rodrigue. Debts owed by the succession to: the estate of Jean-Baptiste Rodrigue, and Baptiste Grima (of New Orleans).

Receipt, March 26, 1804. Louis Picou declares to Andry, in the presence of Andre Deslonde and Louis de Grandmont, that he has received from his mother-in-law, Pelagie Elfer, widow of Jean-Charles Rodrigue, the sum due his wife, Celeste Rodrigue, from the succession of her father, Jean-Charles Rodrigue. Verloin de Gruy signed in the place of Grandmont.
