James DeWolf & Rebeccca (Lounsbury) Shappee were living together as a family with five children in Horseheads at the time of the 1860 U.S. Census of New York. They were next door to Ira Lounsbury's family, and not far from E. Bartlett and David Powers Shappee. James' occupation was "farmer." The family's real estate was valued at $4,000 and their personal estate at $1,600. Their children Franklin and Hudson are not listed in the 1860 census, so presumably they were born after July 1860. Ethan, Hudson, Franklin, and Daniel share a grave stone and died around 1863. |
