- Note: Ignatius lived most of his life with a surname Marion (his birth, the marriage, the births of his children), but died recorded as Mariam, and there is some ambiguity as to the proper surname to use. It appears to be a different family, not covered by Source:Pope, Charles Henry. Merriam Genealogy in England and America, for example. But the commonness of the Merriam surname may have resulted in a misspelling of the name by town clerks. At the time of writing, the children are being entered merely to provide context for the parents, so it is beyond the scope of this effort to pursue each child and see which surname seems most appropriate. Even if this approach is not strictly correct, since all the males appear to have lived in Ashburnham, where the name came to be spelled Merriam, the Marion spelling must have died out in this line by the end of this generation anyway.
