Henry Grimke and Nancy Weston: Family HistoryHenry Grimke and Nancy Weston, his slave began a relationship in 1843 that produced 3 sons, Archibald, Francis and John. Their union lasted until his death. Nancy would later take the surname of Grimke. Her sons were "adopted" by the sisters Angelina and Sarah Grimke. The sisters aided their nephews and helped them acquire educations. Both Archibald and Francis became noted men in their respective fields of Law and Religion. Both brothers were active in civil rights and were founding members of the NAACP. John Grimke, the third son went to Florida and lived a life of obscurity. Little is known about John Grimke's life or descendants, if any.
