  1.   Valentin and Juliana lived in the village of Moerzheim near Landau. Two sons had been born when, in 1753, Valentin's health failed, and upon the advice of his physician, they sailed for America in September 1753 on the ship "Barclay" for Philadelphia, PA.

    Family tradition is that Valentin and the younger son died at sea in 1753 on the ship during the crossing. Juliana and son Matthias arrived in Philadelphia September 14, 1754.
