Their son, Dort Smith, married Lucretia Dykes, whose father came from Georgia and settled on the Tangipahoa. George Smith, Sr., had a negro slave woman named Rebecca, who recently died at the age of ninety-five. She was a mother at fifteen and nursed Dort Smith at his infancy."
