WEDDING

ATKINS-ADKINS

The wedding was celebrated at 5.30 p.m. on March 15 by the Rev. A. H. Lambton at St Paul's Church of England, Charters Towers, when Norma, youngest daughter of Mrs. E. Adkins of Charters Towers. and the late Mr. A. R. Adkins. of Normanton, was united in the bonds of Holy Matrimony to Eric Lionel, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. V. Atkins, of Taree. N.S.W. To the strains of the Bridal Match played by Miss Tuffley, the bride entered the church on the arm of her brother, who gave her away. The bride's gown was of white silk lace, made on classical lines, buttoned from the back neckline to the scalloped waistline, long sleeves peaked over the hands, the front bodice trimmed with tiny white satin bows. She wore a long veil of fine white net, embroidered at the hem, mounted on a four-scalloped lace setting, white lace gloves, and carried a shower bouquet of red roses and ferns tied with white streamers, and a ruby brooch worn by her mother on her wedding day. Miss Merle Shepherd attended as bridesmaid, wearing a floor length frock of blue silk lace over blue satin, made on classic lines, featuring a scalloped neckline. She wore blue mittens and carried a bouquet of red roses mingled with fern and tied with streamers of red ribbon. Her pretty headdress was of pleated blue and red tulle. A blue stone pendant, surrounded with tiny gold flowers, the bridegroom's gift, completed her toilette. The bride's two nieces, May O'Donnell and Doreen Arscott, attended her as flower girls, both frocked alike in pretty pink silk net over pink satin, made with full circular skirts and heart shape neckline. finished with scattered tiny blue bows. The girls wore pink silk net mittens and each carried a Victorian bouquet of pink roses, surrounded with fern and tied with streamers of blue ribbon. The girls wore Victorian headdress of pleated pink and blue tulle to correspond with the bridesmaid's, and a gold cross and chain which were gifts from the bridegroom. The bride groom's brother, Mr. Doug Atkins, carried out the duties of best man. The bride's mother, assisted by Miss Vera Atkins, received the guests at the reception, which was held in the M.U. Hall. The pride of' the table was a beautifully decorated three-tier square cake. The happy couple were the recipients of many telegrams, cheques and other valuable gifts. The bridal couple left to spend their honeymoon at Surfer's Paradise and Coolangatta, the bride travelling in a frock of jacaranda blue silk with white, accessories. A few days will be spent with the bride's sister, Mrs. H, Saunders, in Brisbane, before Mr. and Mrs. Atkins continue to Upper Lansdowne, NS.W., where they will take up residence.
