  1. Quoting Source:Bartlett, J. Gardner. Gregory Stone Genealogy, p. 78, the first child, David, b. 6 Apr 1650, "is recorded as son of David and Elizabeth Stone; but a careful study of the matter indicates that the name of the wife here given was a clerical error." The lack of specific evidence being cited suggests it was merely Bartlett's overall impression, rather than a provable conclusion. It certainly seems the likely conclusion, as David b. 1650 by record, Daniel 1651 by age at death and Dorcas b. 1652 by record, appears to leave no room for remarriage, and no other mention or record of a wife Elizabeth can be found, and no daughter was ever named Elizabeth (though the son David named a daughter Elizabeth, but that could be after his wife's mother, so not really indicative). However, Source:Hudson, Charles. History of the Town of Lexington, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, from Its First Settlement to 1868, p. 2:673, follows the record verbatim, showing a first wife Elizabeth as mother of David and Dorcas a mother of the rest. On the other hand, Source:Paige, Lucius Robinson. History of Cambridge, Massachusetts, 1630-1877, Vol. 3, p. 664 shows only one wife. The baptism of his children, as copied into the Lexington records, calls Dorcas his second wife, but the originals in the Cambridge Church Records, importantly, do not.
