  2. The often flawed Source:Pierce, Frederick Clifton. Foster Genealogy, p. 139, add three children to this family that cannot be found in any records: a second son David, a second daughter Lydia and a son Gideon. David and Lydia would have to have been born after 1736 when their respective predecessors died.

Pierce gives no dates, marriages, or details about any of these children, nor can any be found, nor are they mentioned in the father's 1754 will or its probate in 1762. Thus, they appear fictitious. The one exception to the above is that Pierce says a Benjamin Foster was appointed guardian to the alleged David Foster (providing no year or case number). No such guardianship can be found. It is not known who the alleged Benjamin Foster is, as there was no older brother or uncle by this name. Essex Case 9834 in 1768 (an irrelevant year to this David's probate) shows a guardian Benjamin Proctor (not Foster) appointed guardian of a David Foster age 14 son of David Foster late of Danvers (not Andover). It is hard to believe this could have been misconstrued as a son of this David Foster, but it is the only guardianship that even resembles Pierce's claim.
