January 22, 2005 David, I am researching the Gotchers. I found your address while scanning the family trees. John M. Gotcher was my ggrandfather; His daughter Sarah Melissa my grandmother. She married David Edward Eaton. I see no way to straighten out the mess of John Marion & John Matthew & all their wives. I wonder if they are the same man, but with three wives instead of two. I do know the J.M. Gotcher buried in Sweetwater, Tx. is my ggrandfather. I believe his middle name is Marion because my father told me that his older brother was named for their grandfather. His brother was Thomas Marion. I was in Sweetwater the last week of December, and found his grave. However, he apparently did not die there, as there's no death record in Nolan County. At the time he applied for his civil war pension, he was in Hamilton, Tx. with one of his daughters,Ruth Ann. So, I will see if there is a death certificate for him there. I have ordered a death dertificate for my grandmother, and am hoping it will have his full name. You know that these documents are only as good as the informer. Whoever the informer was for Sarah Melissa gave her name as Sarah Malasia. I know her name was Melissa. Would like to hear your opinion on the wives of these John Gotchers.
