  1.   Perry, Wood, Ohio, in United States. 1930 U.S. Census Population Schedule. (National Archives Microfilm Publication T626).

Emma C Haynes indicates she was first married at age 19, but she bore Dorothy when she was about 16. Thus, it is assumed that Dorothy was born out-of-wedlock.

  2. Dorothy Joyce (Waldron) Aspell's obituary is published on RootsWeb. It indicates that her parents were Clarence E Waldron and Emma (Prenzlin) Haynes, and lists among the siblings who predeceased her, 3 children of Clarence E Waldron by his wife Lillie Zimmerman (Emma's maternal aunt) - Beatrice (b. 1915), Melvin (b. 1920) and Elmer (b. 1926). It appears that Emma bore her daughter Dorothy out-of-wedlock, and that the father was her aunt's husband. Dorothy's surname in the 1930 census (when she was living with her mother and step-father) is Waldron, so it appears that her father acknowledged her.
