He was 35 years old b. AL property $600, Penetta (sic) is 36 b. TN, (all children b. MS), Nancy C. is 13, Samuel R. is 10, Andrew J. is 8, Sintha A. is 6, Mary P. is 4, Alonzo is 1 year old. Neighbors on both sides: house 230-230 William C. Anderson 33 b. TN property $1000, Samuel/Daniel (difficult to read) Anderson 74 TN (could this be Penetta's father and brother, or was she a HODGES?), Alla JACK (female) 42 b. TN, Mahala 19 TN. On the other side in house 228-228 is Isaac FIELD 35 TN, Perminta 35 SC, Ira T. 14 AL, William D. 12 AL, Albert 9 AL, Mosovia A. (? spelling difficult to read-a female) 8 AL, and Priss 5 MS. Also:Malden, Rebecca Southern Div. Tishomingo County - page 150 (she lives with the Joseph HUNT family). This was Rebecca McAdams, mother of Blake Marcus Mauldin. On the 1860 Blackland, Tishomingo Co., MS census (taken 21st June), house 177/177, page 28, he is listed as B. M. Mauldin, 46 years old, b. AL, a farmer, owning land worth $1600.00 and personal property worth $1000.00. Blake's wife's name is spelled Pernada, 47 b. TN. Children: S. R. (male) 20 MS, A. J. (male) 18 MS, Cynthia E. 16 MS, M. P. 13 (female) MS, G. W. (male) 11 MS, Sarah 9 MS, H. J. (female) 4 MS, and B. L. (male) 2 MS. Their neighbor, in house 176/176 is J. M. & Sarah WELLS and family, including 15 year old J. W. Wells who later married Mary P. Mauldin. Highland was at one time an inland post office with Mr. Paden as post master. He also operated a tavern as this was on the Iuka and Fulton stage coach route. Highland was merely a stop for the change of mail, passengers, and horses. Also on the 1860 Tishomingo Co., MS census are the following MAULDIN families: John 23yrs, b. AL, Samuel 16yrs b. TN, and Blake's brother, William Mauldin 51yrs, b. AL and wife Janie 28 and their children Riley 10yrs, John 5yrs, William 2yrs, and Sallie 1 month old.In 1865 Blake was a constable, in addition to his farming. <P>By 1870 Blake M. Mauldin is listed in Baysprings, Tishomingo Co., MS census. Bay Springs is thought to have been founded about 1836, however, no definitive records have been found to prove this date. The town is located near Mackey's Creek, seven miles west of the present town of Dennis and forty miles from the town of Eastport. Bay Springs was formerly named Gresham's Mill
