IN THE NAME OF GOD, AMEN. I, Benjamin Taylor, of the County of Culpepper in the Parish of St. Marks, calling to mind the uncertainty of this life do make this my Last Will and Testament that is to say, chiefly and principally, I command my soul into the hands of Almighty God that gave it, and my Body to the earth to be buried at the discretion of my Executors hereafter named and touching such worldly Estate wherewith it has pleased God to bless me with in this life, I give, devise and dispose of in the following manner and form. Imprimis: It is my desire that my land should belong to my son, Thomas Taylor, after my decease. Item, I give unto sd. Son, Thomas Taylor, my Great Bible and Common Prayer Book and my Coopers and Carpenters Tools with my wearing apparel. Item: I give unto my Daughter, Elizabeth Miles and Mary Butler my Negro Girls Nan and Lucy and their increases to be divided as they can agree without selling. Item: I give unto my grandsons, Charles Taylor; Benjamin Taylor, and James Taylor, forty Shillings to be paid towards their schooling when they arrive to take learning. As for the rest of my Estate, I desire it may be divided between my son Thomas Taylor, Elizabeth Niles and Mary Butler, after my just debts are paid, and I appoint my son, Thomas Taylor, and my son-in-law, Charles Miles, and my son-in-law John Butler Executors, of this my last Will and Testament, utterly revoking all former wills by me heretofore made and do declare this and no other to be my Last Will and Testament. In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this eleventh day of February One thousand seven hundred and seventy-five. At a Court held for Culpepper County the 19th day of August 1776 this last Will and Testament of Benjamin Taylor deceased was exhibited to the Court by Thomas Taylor and John Butler, two of the executors therein named and was proved by the oaths of William Green and Charles Yancy, two of the Witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded and on the motion of the said executors, Certificate is granted them for obtaining probate thereof in due form they having sworn to the name and Given Bond and security according to law. Teste John Jameson C and Cur.

Virginia; In Culpepper County Circuit Court Clerk’s Office. I, C.T. Guinn, Clerk of the Circuit Court in and for the Count y and State aforesaid, do hereby certify that the foregoing is a true copy of the Will of Benjamin Taylor which is of record in Will Book B, at page 178. Given under my hand and the seal of the Court this 20th day of October 1944.
