    BENJAMIN (5) MILLER (Benjamin-4, Robert-3, Robert-2, John-1), b. at Swansea, Mass., 21 Sept. 1731, d. at Warren, R.I. in 1774; m. there 10 Jan. 1751, HOPE COLE, b. at Swansea in 1733, d. at Providence, R.I. in February 1787, daughter of Benjamin and Hope (Nelson) Cole. (Vital Records of Rhode Island, Vol. 14, p. 108; Descendants of James Cole of Plymouth, 1908, by E. B. Cole, p. 71; Mayflower Index #8, 127) link Benjamin joined with his neighbors in the purchase of land 2 Nov. 1764 in Warren for the erection of a schoolhouse, but on 4 Nov. 1769 he and his brother-in-law William Arnold sold their “3/20 parts of a schoolhouse in Warren” to Ephraim Cole.     He and his brothers James and Robert made a division of the property inherited from their father, Benjamin’s share was ten acres including the “dwelling house in Warren where Benjamin now liveth.” (Warren, R.I. Deeds, Vol. 2, p. 130)

    Benjamin and Hope Miller “of the County of Bristol” sold to Jame
    15 Nov. 1769 one fourth acre in Warren “given me by my honored father Benjamin Miller of Warren deceased.” (Ibid., Vol. 2, p. 395)

    Benjamin’s acknowledgment to this deed 21 Jan. 1774 and this is his last appearance in the public records of Warren. The Rhode Island State Census of 1774 lists Hope Miller living in Warren as the head of a family including, besides her self, two boys and two girls under 16 years.
