The identification of Sarah Ingersoll as wife of Benjamin Barnes is not proven. It is known, from multiple sources, that the baptismal name of Benjamin Barnes' wife was "Sarah." In the Ingersoll genealogy, p. 128, we are told, probably based on either a land or probate record (neither quoted nor cited) that Sarah, daughter of John and Abigail (Bascom) Ingersoll married a man with the Barnes surname.
