An exact marriage date or banns publication date has not yet been found for Auke and Geertje. The 1682 estimate is based on their appearance together as witnesses on 21 May 1682 for the baptism in Flatbush of the child of Jan Stevensen and Femmetje Aukes who was the daughter of Auke Jansen. Auke and Geertje had appeared together for an earlier baptism on 17 July 1681 also in Flatbush for the child of Jan Aukes and Evertje (Eva) Jansen. That baptism is inconclusive, however, since the father of the child was a son of Auke and the mother was a daughter to Geertje. As the child's respective grandparents, both Auke and Geertje would be expected to be there, whether they were married or not. Furthermore, Jan and Evertje were married in 1680. If their parents had been married prior to that date, Jan and Evertje would have been step-brother and step-sister, a relationship which would have prohibited the marriage between them.

The primary evidence for the marriage of Auke and Geertje is Auke's will in which he names Geertje as his wife, although the writer of the will appears to have spelled her name "Geetje Auckes".
