Family emigrated from Scotland to Ontario, Canada 1887. Stayed for a time with Family:Donald_McLean_and_Rachel_McLean_(1) in Brooke Township, then moved to nearby Marthaville. Archibald McLean's son Donald sent letters to Donald McLean's son Lachlan, addressed to his "cousin", but the exact nature of the relationship hasn't yet been determined.

Surname

Amongst many of the McLean families the surname flucuates between McLean and MacLean. The surname of this family's tombstone is MacLean, but it in early records it's McLean. In the letters of son Donald McLean, his own spelling of his name bounces between McLean and MacLean. I decided to change the name of John and Hugh to MacLean because they seemed to use this spelling in their adulthood in their professional capacities. --Tim 18:28, 2 January 2007 (MST)
