Andreas Martin (41, b Armsheim abt 1799; but now of Gensingen; shoemaker) and Maria Barbara geb. Hauck emigrated April 1840 with five children, his mother-in-law (no name provided), widow of Jacob Hauck, geb. Schneider (age 78; therefore b 1762) and his wife’s sister, Maria Magdalene Hauck (38; therefore b 1802). Children:

  1. Margarete (9; b 1831)
  2. Valentin (7; b 1833)
  3. Magdalene (5; b 1835)
  4. Jacob (3; b 1837)
  5. Catharina (1/2 year; b 1839)

From Jul 1840 Wellingsly ship's passenger list, page 2, this grouping:

  • Martin, Andreas 41
  • Hauck, Barbara 38
  • Hauk, Apolonia 78
  • Hauck, Margaretha 35
  • Martin, Margaretha 8
  • Martin, Valentin 7
  • Martin, Magdelena 6
  • Martin, Jacob 4
  • Martin, Catharina 9 mons

Slight discrepancies:

  • Barbara is listed on passenger list as Hauck and not Martin
  • Ages of some of the people are off a bit

But otherwise, the grouping on the "Wellingsly" matches the group on the emigration documentation.

From 1850 Census: Lyons, Wayne Co., NY (without Appolonia; and without the youngest two children all of whom must have died in the intervening 9 years):

  • Andrew Martin, 52, laborer, b. Germany
  • Barbara, 48 [therefore b 1802]
  • Margaret, 19
  • Folten [Valentin], 16
  • Lana [Magdalena], 14
  • Magdalena Houk, 46

1860 US Census: Lyons, Wayne Co., NY:

  • Andrew Martin, 62, day laborer, b. Hesse Darmstadt
  • Barbary 58
  • Valentine, 27, day laborer

Can’t find Andrew and Barbara in 1870; Valentine is married and raising a family.
