  2. Note: the source for the information given by Putnam is indicated as "Statement of Joel M. Holden, 1858." The same statement is found in Source:Chandler, Seth. History of the Town of Shirley, Massachusetts, p. 457 (published about 25 years later), which is the source cited by Putnam for her supposed death 1800. No evidence supporting a precise year of marriage, her name at the time of marriage (much less her identification) nor her death has been found. An AFN indicates she is the daughter of John Blood and Joanna Nutting, but no indication of a daughter Sarah in this family has been found, nor is one mentioned by Source:Butler, Caleb. History of the Town of Groton, Including Pepperell and Shirley, from the First Grant of Groton Plantation in 1655 p. 416, and the suggested birth date ("about 1740") does not reflect authority nor feasibility as her mother would have been 50. So this seems like improbable speculation. A Find A Grave memorial with no gravestone has a writeup suggesting Sarah is the daughter of John Blood, the son of the above couple. This is clearly incorrect, as that Sarah was born in 1758 per record (Groton VRs, p. 1:36) and thus could not have married by 1763, and further showing its confusion, the memorial makes her the sister of Caleb b. 1734 which is back to being the daughter of John and Joanna, not their son. It further presents a convoluted speculation taken from Source:Harris, Roger Deane. Story of the Bloods, p. 169, suggesting she became a Shaker in 1797 (signing the convenant as "widow Sarah Blood"), returned to using her maiden name of Sarah Blood, and is the Sarah Blood who d. 13 Apr 1801 and was buried in the Shirley Shaker Cemetery. This is fairly wild speculation based mostly on observations that Amos's sister married Sarah's alleged brother Caleb Blood and another alleged brother Moses Blood lived in Shirley. Source:Slayton, William John. Descendants of James Blood (1590-1683) shows no daughter Sarah belonging to John and Joanna Blood, and has no mention of Amos Holden or who married him. Clearly whoever she was, Sarah was a younger woman as they had several children.]
  3. Shirley records show the birth of son John to Amos and Sarah on 21 May 1765. Sarah signs as wife of Amos in a deed dated 15 Jun 1764 (Middlesex Deed Vol. 61, p. 617).
