A second transcription, obtained from Ancestry.ca (and citing Microfilm 1030062, which looks like a FamilySearch microfilm) provides a different wording:
7 Jan 1866
Ambrose Atkinson, 46, born Yorkshire, England, living in Reach Township, son of William Atkinson and Elizabeth Atkinson, to Ann Jane Hamilton, 21, born Ireland, living in Reach Township, daughter of William Hamilton and Elizabeth Hamilton
The transcription comes from a collection of original marriage register copies which clergymen were expected to forward annually to the provincial Registrar General. A clerk in the Registrar General's office subsequently copied them for the office's files. It is this copy that has been microfilmed. Some clergymen recorded more details about the marrying couples than others; some clerks copied more or less of the data. Transcribing from handwriting to handwriting always involves the hazard of illegibility.
In this case the bride has been given two different surnames and two different ages. I presume Hamilton was her maiden name and Mitchell her name following a first marriage. Neither transcription gives the marital status of bride and groom. However, the third member of the household in 1871 and 1881 censuses could well be a daughter from Ann Jane's first marriage. The age of 21, provided by the Ancestry transcription, does not tally with Ann Jane's age on the three subsequent censuses.
