According to family lore, these three brothers came to Craven County, North Carolina in 1728 with the Kennedy's (Cannaday's) and Henderson's. It is not known where they came from, though it is thought to be England. Craven County was formed in 1705 from Archdale Precinct of Bath County. Counties formed from Craven include: Carteret, Johnston, Jones, New Hanover (and formed from New Hanover were Bladen, Brunswick, Duplin, Onslow, and Pender).

Descended from the immigrant Howards are Obediah Howard of Orange County, NC who married Priscilla Avery Breed; Seth Howard of Jones/Craven Counties, NC who married Adrah Narcissa Collins; William Buckhannon Howard of SC who married Jane Carter; and Marion Francis Howard of Oklahoma who married Julie F. Though these familes have been proven by DNA testing to connected, we have not yet been able to find who the connecting families are.

The Haplogroup designation confirmed for one member of this group is R1b1 or R-P25.
