If you need any help, we will be glad to answer your questions. Just go to the Support page, click on the Add Topic link, type your message, then click the Save Page button. Thanks for participating and see you around! --Support 05:01, 7 January 2025 (UTC) I didn't add the father of Bloody Bill, I attached William to his brother and Bloody Bill was already there... I am working on correcting it now--TinaBopper 18:38, 18 January 2025 (UTC) I am trying to make Bloody Bill's "UNKNOWN" father the son of Unknown Cunningham and Unknown (3) so that Bloody Bill's father, first name UNKNOWN, will be with his siblings: John & William of Thorney Branch. UNKNOWN had Bloody Bill and UNKNOWN is a brother to https://www.werelate.org/wiki/Person:John_Cunningham_%2889%29 & https://www.werelate.org/wiki/Person:Unknown_Cunningham_%2826%29 but every time I try to add UNKNOWN as a brother it puts him as a 'son of' instead of as a 'brother of' so I will stop trying to correct it and hopefully you can make Bloody Bill's UNKNOWN father the son of #3 and brother to :John_Cunningham_(89) & Unknown_Cunningham_(26) who should be William. I will not add or correct any further because I apparently am making errors and I don't want to compromise the integrity of the work done on We Relate so I will just stop correcting but there are a lot of repeating names in this Cunningham family and We Relate has the 3 Johns and 2 Williams consolidated into one. I was trying to separate them and I apparently goofed so I will just stop so as to not make mistakes correcting lineages--TinaBopper 19:14, 18 January 2025 (UTC) [add comment] [edit] Recent merge [18 January 2025]Hi Welcome to WeRelate I noticed that you merged the unknown father of William "Bloody Bill" Cunningham with William Cunningham of Augusta County, Virginia, uncle of Robert and Patrick Cunningham. Do you have evidence for this? The page of Bloody Bill says "The identity of the father of William "Bloody Bill" Cunningham is unknown. More research is needed to prove his parentage." It also says that Bloody Bill was said to have been the second cousin of Robert and Patrick, which would make this relationship incorrect. Given that so many online trees combine families based on assumptions without data, it is important to indicate what the actual evidence is. I want to make sure that this change is based on evidence, not just an online tree. If you haven't found new evidence, the merge needs to be reverted. If you are not comfortable doing this (and I don't know how well "review/undo" works when there are subsequent changes to a page) let me know and I will figure out how to do it. Thanks--DataAnalyst 14:12, 18 January 2025 (UTC) I didn't add the parentage to Bloody Will I added William to his brother and Bloody Bill was already there.... The record indicates Samuel Davis and Andrew were brothers-in-law, but I couldn't tell if Andrew married a Davis or Samuel married a Fitzpatrick. Is there any source confirming Andrew married Mary Davis? I also noticed you added James Fitzpatrick as a child of Andrew. I believe this is incorrect, as James was son of Thomas Fitzpatrick of Augusta/Bath Co, VA, with no relation to Andrew. --Jarnell 17:51, 24 April 2025 (UTC) I detached James. I had him in my records as John Davis' nephew and that he followed John to Jackson River. Mary is a sister to John, William & Samuel. There are numerous Chancery Suits identifying the family--TinaBopper 00:29, 25 April 2025 (UTC) Would you mind sharing those Chancery Suits in the sources? I have been looking for a document confirming Mary Davis' identity, and all the current sources are ambiguous.--Jarnell 01:43, 25 April 2025 (UTC) I sure will. I will get you a link to the suits. Can you share what you have that connects James Fitzpatrick to who you suspect is his father? I had in my notes [from the late 1990s] that James Fitzpatrick was a nephew of John Davis Jr. [Mary's brother]. I will have to dig out my boxes of Davis notes to see why/where I got that entry from. John Davis Jr was a trader/merchant and James Fitzpatrick followed John to Jackson River. John Davis Jr. also speculated in Real Estate. Tracing farmers is easy [they stay put]... merchants/traders not so much! I am just now entering all my notes into my ancestry tree [I have boxes of notes because we didn't have all these internet resources back in the day]. I haven't devoted much time to research because I have been focusing on entering the data to my ancestry tree [and data entry is time consuming, at least to me]. I will get you those Chancery links. Love, Tina--TinaBopper 02:06, 25 April 2025 (UTC) Thank you! There's an indenture dated 27 Aug 1792 listing James, John and Daniel as heirs to Thomas Fitzpatrick in Bath Co, VA, Deed Book 1, 1791-1799, p 75-6. I'm apparently not able to share the URL here but the scanned original can be viewed on FamilySearch.--Jarnell 16:36, 25 April 2025 (UTC) Well I am coming up with nothing when searching for the Chancery suit. My research/notes are 20+ year old and a lot of those older websites are now dysfunct. My notes read: SOURCE: Augusta VA Chancery Suits, Genealogy.com Library however wayback-machine doesn't have it crawled so I can't get to the online Library wherein I located it originally I searched here for it and found nothing https://www.lva.virginia.gov/chancery/ I searched using the "AI search feature" on Family Search (where it scrawls all documents with whatever keywords you tell it to search for) and a lot of hits came up when I enter "Fitzpatrick" "Davis" Augusta Virginia as the search keywords. I have read most of the "hits"/entries and, although there are a lot of Suits in the order books, none of the "hits" details the chancery suit. This one may be in regards to the Chancery Suit but the Order Books do not go into "detail" so it is of no help https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-CS4H-C9PY-1?view=fullText If you use the WildCard AI search https://www.familysearch.org/en/search/full-text you can enter "Andrew Fitzpatrick" to get less hints [just "Fitzpatrick" will get you all the Fitzpatrick entries - and there are a lot] you can enter "Davis" as a secondary keyword to reduce the hits to seek just the Davis-Fitzpatrick hits. The Davis family removed to Stokes NC - Samuel removed first c1764 - Samuel is not on the 1764 Processioner's list in Augusta [brother William Davis & b-i-l Andrew Fitzpatrick are on the Augusta County, VA list] thus Samuel seems to be the first to remove to NC so the records dated 1800 and to present do not pertain to this family [the WildCard search will search ALL the records - even 1800s but those records will not pertain to this family] Andrew Fitzpatrick went to Surry c1772 but returned to Augusta William Davis removed to Surry c1772 - began to purchase land around 1773 from Thomas Mullins, the land in Surry County is located in modern day Stokes County I tell you all this so, if you use the search AI feature, records before 1780 pertain to this family whereas after 1780 may not be them.... maybe Andrew Fitzpatrick since he returned to Augusta but the Davis & Scott family removed to NC Love, Tina--TinaBopper 00:22, 26 April 2025 (UTC) I went through my notes and I will copy and paste here... hopefully it helps [since IO wasn't much help with the actual Chancery Suits]
"John Davis vs. William McKee--Writ to Rockbridge. Case, 5th May, 1784. Samuel Ewing, of Bedford, about to go to Georgia, 15th June, 1784. ***Mrs. Davis was moved to Kentucky***, and Ewing proposed to take the slave to Mr. John Talbot or Mr. David Wright, in Bedford, who would take charge of him, 17th July, 1784." I don't know if the Mrs. Davis listed is Elenor... what I do know: • We know sons Samuel Davis & William Davis (along with John Scott & Francis Reynolds) all purchased adjoining tracts in 1761. • We know husband John died in Augusta 1762. • We know son Samuel sold his 200 acres at Mount Atlas to Samuel Lyle and removed to Surry NC [modern day Stokes] in 1764 • We know son William & his wife Mary sold his 100 acres at Mount Atlas, together with John Scott & his wife Catherine selling their 100 acres for a total of 200 acres, to William McCutchen in 1765 however both William & Scott were in Augusta court records 1767, 1768 & 1771 • [where were they living if they sold their land in 1765? • son John & dtr Judith were on Jackson River... did William & Scott move to Jackson River too?]. • William Davis is buying land in Surry NC in 1773. • We know Andrew Fitzpatrick resided on the land in 1745, as shown by depositions of John McClung and William McCampbell [I wish I could locate the Chancery Suit that involved this] • We know in 1762 everybody is suing everybody: Order Book 6, page 402 has Samuel Davis vs Andr Fitzpatrick, Elinor Davis vs Andrew Fitzpatrick, John Dunlap vs Andrew Fitzpatrick, John Hays vs Andrew Fitzpatrick, John Houston vs Andrew Fitzpatrick SOURCE: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-CS4H-C9PY-1?view=fullText • We know Andrew Fitzpatrick bought adjoining land on Mount Atlas 30 May 1765 AFTER Samuel Davis, William Davis & John Scott sold their Mount Atlas land. • We know Andrew Fitzpatrick was on the tax list of Surry NC in 1772 and "absent" on the 1772 tax list of Augusta VA • We know Andrew Fitzpatrick returned to Augusta VA and is named in the record: Andrew Fitzpatrick, Assignee of Samuel Davis heir at law of Elinor Davis who in her lifetime was the assignee of Wm Davis (Plaintiff) vs. William McCutcheon (Defendant), judgement for the plaintiff d/t failure to appear of defendant [Order Book 13, p 273] [I wish I could locate the Chancery Suit that involved this] LASTLY, • We know their is a connection to the Ewing family but how they connect is still unknown: DAVIS vs SCOTT May 1771, Augusta County, Virginia William Davis vs. Joseph Scott.--Writ, 23d November, 1771. "Scott is now in Carolina, but expected in. Captain Ewing is his uncle, where he resides when in Virginia." [SOURCE: https://usgenwebsites.org/vagenweb/augusta/Scott.htm] [I wish I could locate the Chancery Suit that involved this] • We know Andrew Fitzpatrick is assignee for Aaron Davis in 1755 and their is a younger Aaron Davis [born c1750 on Muddy Creek... is he Aaron Jr? as he is too young to be the Aaron Davis that Andrew Fitzpatrick was assignee for in 1755: 15 Sept 1796 - Aaron Davis & his wife, Rachel, sold the 135 acres to James Henderson [the same James Henderson that was Samuel & William Davis' neighbor on Mount Atlas???] Aaron Dais [Jr?] on WIki: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Davis-10240 CLEAR AS MUD--TinaBopper 15:49, 27 April 2025 (UTC) |
