Next step: Review your GEDCOM [14 March 2010]

You're not done yet!

WeRelate is different from most family tree websites. By contributing to WeRelate you are helping to create Pando for genealogy, a free, unified family tree that combines the best information from all contributors.

Now that you have uploaded Schneider Johann descendants of 2010 privitized.GED, your next step is to review what your pages will look like, review any potential warnings, and combine (merge) people in your GEDCOM with matching people already on WeRelate. You need to review your GEDCOM before it can finish importing.

Click here to review your GEDCOM

Once you have finished your review and marked your GEDCOM Ready to import, one of our administrators will review your GEDCOM and finalize the import. This usually happens within 24 hours. You will receive a message here when the pages have been created.

George Snyder

Hi Sylvia,

Noticed that you had edited George Snyder and Mary Walker. In glancing though your additions I took the opportunity to make a needed connection, in that we are fairly confident that Mary was the daughter of the the John Walker who lived on LIttle River, sometimes AKA "Indian Killer". We've got fairly good information that this particular John Walker is John Walker IV of the the Wigton Walker lineage. He's sometime identified as the John Walker (aka Meadow Creek John) who settled on the Nolichucky River in Green County TN, some of whose children moved south into Millers Cove of Blount County. Available evidence suggests that this is not correct, though the basis for this has as yet not been fully explained on WeRelate. We should be updateing that aspect soon.

I was glad to see you adding vita data in the left hand sidebar. That's always helpful. Something we'd like to do, and perhaps you can help with this in particular, is focus on original sources to support the different vita data. We'd rather see sources such as "George Syder's Family Bible", or census derived DOB's, than pointers to sources such as personal GedCom's. The reason for that is because as a rule, such personal sources can't be verified by those who come after. Information on sites such as Ancestry, come and go, but the underlying sources for that information remain unchanged, and so are a better place to serve as a source. Any help you can give in identifying those underlying sources would be most appreciated.

And thanks for contributing to WeRelate. Q 14:07, 14 March 2010 (EDT)

Susannah Snider and Archibald Sloan [23 December 2011]

Sylvia,

I have researched the Sloan and Snider families for years, mainly my Sloan line, but also the Snider and Walker families. I live in Monroe County, Tennessee, and have quite extensive information on the families. I have never seen a middle initial for either Susannah or Archibald. I visited their graves again a couple of weeks ago while I was photographing gravestones in the Tellico Baptist Church Cemetery. I am curious as to where the initial "H" came from in Susannah's name and where the middle initial "A" comes from in Archibald Sloan's. I added the dates of birth and death for Archibald by editing and deleted the middle initials. However, I would have no objection that the initials be added but would like to see some basis for them. I remember we communicated some years ago on the Snider and Walker line. Hope you are doing well.--Notcheycr 19:26, 22 December 2011 (EST)
