William Porter of Rockbridge County, VA [1 September 2012]

Hello RBH, thanks for the note on my Talk Page. The William Porter that you mentioned is actually listed on List of People Owning Land in the Borden Tract, including the three tracts that you listed. You might have been looking at the Beverley Manor List for him, which William would not have been listed on.

If you have any additional information/sources on William Porter, feel free to add them to his page, including information on his children's pages, too.

Thanks again and best regards,

Jim:)--Delijim 18:21, 31 August 2012 (EDT)

I can't remember what section it is but I seem to think it is possibly Early Settlers of Rockbridge County. It lists his brother Samuel Porter as showing improvments on his land on the Buffalo in 1750-1 but no mention of his brother William Porter's land.

I don't know if you can answer this or not but Wm. SR's son John is not shown receiving any land from his father's estate. Yet, there is no mention of a parcel of 200 acres in his will. Would it have been unusual for this to have been transferred to John without a record back in the 1700's.

In Chalkley's I have found this and am wondering if it is the same land in the vicinity of his father, William's land.

Page 48.--10th August, 1766. John Dailey and Mary to John Porter,

£60, 130 acres in Forks of James, part of 400 acres known as Hart's Bottom, whereon said John now liveth, small island in the river. Teste: John Mitchell. Was this land "eventually" in Botetourt before it became Rockbridge?

In the Porter History Book by Mary E. Porter it states:

The house (Wm. Sr.'s) is located at the eastern entrance of Goshen Pass, well back againest the mountain behind it. It is about 300 yds from the highway and the Maury River. On a small island in the river just across the highway is a sulphur spring which was the attraction for the Wilson Resort Hotel.--RBH 21:08, 31 August 2012 (EDT)

William Porter Jr.'s family [15 June 2014]

Hello RBH, noticed your message on my talk page. I did see that you had added some narrative to the family page on William Porter Jr., so I thought I'd help out and add some of their children, but ran out of time, as I had other things to do yesterday. Feel free to add the others, to complete the family. I'm not sure I understand your other comment about hitting the "save" key, since everytime you add information to a Person or Family Page, it saves it when you click the "Save Page" button. Be sure to press it periodically when you are adding alot of information to a page, just in case you get "bumped off", which can happen once in a while....

Thanks for your information on the Porters, they inter-married with several of the Augusta Project families, your addiions are definitely appreciated.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions. It helped a lot to know that I should keep pressing the save page. I entered a lot of info only to lose it. Will try to get back to it sometime in the future. And just a few kudos to you and your team at We Relate...I really appreciate your dedication and hard work. Just in case you don't hear it a lot, your work has more than answered a lot of questions for me and added much valuable information about the various families allied with the Porters. Thanks again.
