Thanks for your response. I have been researching the Turner Family in Gist Settlement for 7 years. I have even written a book about the Gist Settlement. I was successful in adding Frederick Lawrence Turner as a son to Samuel Turner and Cora Belle Rollins and deleted sons Freddie Turner that duplicated Frederick Lawrence. I wanted to change the birth date of Samuel Turner from 1908 to 25 Feb 1909. Samuel death is 17 Jan 1957. Many errors were found on Frederick Lawrence. Someone had added the wrong father and mother. I corrected that. Samuel Turner's middle initial is T. and not F. That is what I don't know how to change. There are a few children that were added to the family that is not Samuel and Cora Bell's children--Pkwright 16:06, 17 November 2020 (UTC)

Hi.
I'm guessing that your inability to make corrections comes from trying to do everything from the family page for Sam Turner and Clara Rollins. WeRelate trees are made up of 2 types of pages: Person pages and Family pages. On the Family page, you can see the entire family, but you can only edit information that is specific to the couple - that is, marriage information, divorce information, etc. You can add and remove children from here as well. However, to change information about any one member of the family, you have to edit their Person page. To do that:
  • Click the name of the person (e.g., Sam F. Turner, Jr.). This takes you to Sam's Person page.
  • Select Edit from the left-hand menu.
I think once you get there, you'll understand how to make the changes you want.
Note that you can also change the names to the full names you have been mentioning (Samuel, Frederick). Shortened versions of the name can be added as alternate names. For an example, take a look at Frederick's Person page, which I already changed.
Merging pages is the correct way to deal with the fact that both Fred (Frederick) and Freddie showed up in the Family page for Sam and Clara. Merging pages is not terribly complicated, but a bit advanced, and best left until you feel more comfortable with the site. In the meantime, I am happy to complete merges for you. Just let me know if any more are required.
In terms of children being in the family who do not belong there - you can remove them by editing the Family page and selecting "remove" next to the child's name, or by editing the child's Person page and removing the parents.
When I looked at the data more carefully, I noted that there were 2 Frederick Lawrence Turners - the correct one showing 1930-2004 and another one showing 1905-1984. The second one existed because the original contributor confused Sr with Jr. I got rid of it and moved the correct page (1930-2004) into Samuel and Clara's family.
Please let me know if I can help with any other corrections to this family. Since the errors were a bit complicated (e.g., 3 pages for Frederick Turner), you might want some expert help to clean it up. Good luck with your changes.--DataAnalyst 16:54, 17 November 2020 (UTC)

Sam Turner and Clara Bell Rollins [16 November 2020]

Hi

Welcome to WeRelate. If you let me know what you were trying to do and where you got stuck, I might be able to coach you through making changes. If it was a simple problem, then you can go ahead and make the corrections yourself. If it turns out to be more than you want to learn, I would appreciate any info you can provide. I am not particularly interested in this family, but trying to ensure that WeRelate has birth and death years for people born since 1900, so that we can ensure we don't have any pages for living individuals. Thanks.--DataAnalyst 01:38, 17 November 2020 (UTC) (volunteer administrator)
