Volunteer opportunities [29 January 2023]

Welcome to WeRelate! I hope you find it a good place to contribute your research.

I'm glad to see you offering to help. I noted your offer on the GEDCOM review page. That task, which is essentially ensuring that contributors understand and follow the process correctly, is currently being handled by another volunteer, but I have some other opportunities for you.

I am attempting to fill in gaps in birth dates/years for a number of pages. Some are for people who were likely born in South Africa and I have no experience with South African sources. I thought you might be familiar with sources and could help. If this is a good fit for you, please take a look at the list below and see if you can fill in some of the birth dates. Approximate birth years are sufficient. Please include source citations.

For these families, I'm looking to fill in birth dates for children who are missing them, and for their spouses (where applicable):

Family:Wilhelm Kumm and Henrietta Sergel (1)

Since I'm not sure how available South African vital records are, I'm not sure if you'll be able to do much with these. If not, and if you are interested in this type of "sleuthing", I have other pages I could use help with, some of which are in the Netherlands. (I know how to search for Netherlands dates, but it would be a help to share the load). Let me know if you want a list to work on.

BTW: WeRelate uses GEDCOM conventions for dates, but has additional guidelines where the GEDCOM standard is silent (e.g., when to use "about" and when to use "estimated"). These can be found at WeRelate date conventions.
