People not to be confused [24 May 2019]

Hi, Oakeymertz,

I saw on DataAnalyst's talk page that you asked about how one can link two people who have been or could be confused with each other. There's a stucture set up called "Assertions" (Help:Assertions) which have various kinds of inter-Person (and inter-Family) templates for linking.

For the possibly confused, there is Template:NotToBeConfusedWith. The template page pointed has basic instructions. In short, each of the two Person: pages uses that template in an "Other"-type event, each indicating the other Person: page. To see what it looks like, see for example Person:Abigail Kimball (17) and Person:Abigail Kimball (18). (To see exactly what the editor did to cause this, use the "Edit" link on one of the pages to see what was entered.)

"Watching" a surname [24 May 2019]

Also on DataAnalyst's page I saw that you would like something rather like a watch on a surname. Here's one thing that might work for you: a Google web alert ( see https://www.google.com/alerts ). You might have to create a Google account if you don't have one.

The idea is to create an alert on a surname with a restriction for only WeRelate. The alert would look like:

   Mertz site:werelate.org

You probably would want to use the options (from the dropdown menu) of How Many (All) and Source (Web).

I haven't tried it for this, but I do use google alerts for other uses and they have been handy. --robert.shaw 00:25, 24 May 2019 (UTC)
