About Roikonen family, my great grandmother Edla Lydia (Lyydi) Hyytiäinen was originally Roikonen which was her mothers maiden name. Lydias mother Karoliina was born in Iso-Hyytiälä (Saarijärvi, Kiimasjärvi) where her family lived as tenants. Karoliinas father Matti Matinpoika Roikonen was born as second oldest son to Matti Erikinpoika Saarikoski/Roikonen in Saarikoski (Saarijärvi, Hännilä). Saarikoski was either an alternative name to Roikola or that they were neighboring homes that belonged to the same family. Here is a map link to Roikolankylä where they were situaited; [1] , house named Roikola still there. Matti Eerikinpoika had 6 sons Erik Gustaf, Matti, Johannes, Otto Vilhelm, Henrik and Carl. I have traced their families as far as I could, nearly all used different names at some point, but all of them and their children eventually used the name Roikonen. Unfortunately I do not have any connections to Saarijärvi, and I have had no access to information on anyone born after 1883 in Saarijärvi. But I do think that if you know that your grandparents or their parents are from Saarijärvi, then they are most likely to belong to this family. You can imagine the amount of decendants using the name Roikonen when Matti Erikinpoika had 6 sons and all of them had sons too, my great great grandmother Karoliina had two (surviving) brothers, Johan and Erik Gustaf. I dont believe that I have found all of Johans and Erik Gustafs children or their cousins children. How much can you tell about your grandparents? To my knowledge last contacts from my family to relatives in Saarijärvi would have been kept by my great aunt Lempi Lahja Ahlman (1907-1979), I have some pictures that I believe are of those relatives but there are no names or any correspondence left. Did your grandparents leave any pictures, postcards or letters behind? I would be interested to know more about your family. Maija--Maija a 10:41, 20 January 2012 (EST) |
