Hugh O'Neill [4 May 2016]

Hello Julie, I'm from Hamilton and Hugh was my grandmother Bridget O'Neill's uncle. The Edinburgh O'Neills seem to have made some contact with the Hamilton family of Joseph Doyle and Briget O'Neill. I kind of found the birth dates etc and stuck them on the family tree and now have you reacting. So Hello from me in Hamilton. Hello Harry, it's great to hear from you. My grandfather was Hugh O'Neill, born 1886. I knew he had a cousin Bridget O'Neill as she appears in 1901 census as cousin to Patrick McKay, whom I knew was a cousin of my grandfather. I have never been able to find a marriage for Bridget. So she married a Doyle? Details please. I think I may have been taken to visit Bridget as a very young child (I was 4, so 1951) as I distinctly remember visiting someone in Hamilton and a big farmhousey kitchen!

Hugh and Grace had two sons , another Hugh O'Neill, born 1923 and my father, William born 1925. The boys grew up in Glasgow, then both attended Glasgow University. I was born in Glasgow in 1947, an only child. My uncle Hugh had 5 children. His oldest son, Hugh, born 1946 together with a mutual McCurdy 2nd cousin are presently working together to discover our family tree.
