WeRelate as a wiki [28 January 2015]

Judy,

Welcome to the community of Gambrel researchers.

I hope you are able to contribute to this wiki-site. I have tried a few others, but this seems to be a lot more productive and a better forum for the way I like to work. It is a wiki and anyone can contribute. So by all means, go for it. You have probably noticed that I haven't entered very much information about Andrew Jackson Gambrel or his family. Feel free to add whatever you can to any of the pages here.

I have taken a little bit of detour from the Gambrel clan lately, and have been concentrating on my mother's Swedish Ancestors.

My Gambrel research has taken me to Prince William County Virginia in 1787. Verbal traditions indicate that the family came out of North Carolina, so I expect to find some information from that area eventually. The fact that William Gambrill (as the spelling most often appeared that way) was married to Ann Milstead, could indicate that like her, he came from Charles County Maryland. There were several different indications that the Milsteads and Gambrills may have been neighbors.

The Charles County Maryland records are rather confusing because there are two different families with similar names. There is the family that descends from William Gambrill the Planter, which likely includes Augustine Gambrill, who was the rich cousin. There is also the family which descends from Domingo A'Gambra, and his son Richard Gambra, who seem to be of Spanish origins. Some time in the early 1700s the names of these two families are sometimes intertwined.

I have enjoyed visiting your mother on several occasions. I hope to see her again on one of my trips east.

Hi Phil,
Thanks for your reply... I am not sure how to maneuver this site so am taking the time to watch the videos. I will add what I know about Andrew Jackson Gambrel. Which Gambrel are you from?
I have a GG Grandfather on my Dads side of the family that I would like to find. My problem is that I know very little about him. Name, birth year, Army in WW1 and was sent to France. I found one marriage doc and a residence and that as far as it goes. Do you have any suggestion?? Good luck on your Mothers Swedish side of the family. Be Blessed!!
