Adding people manually [4 May 2009]

Hello Jeri,

Thanks for sending me a message. Please do not enter living people.

If you decide not to upload a GEDCOM file, and wish to manually enter their information it is pretty easy once you learn. I find the easiest way is to go to the search (at the top of the page) choose person, enter in the father of the FAMILY.

Enter what you know, his name, parents, spouse, dates, etc. Then search for him. If he does NOT exist then right under that box is a ADD button. That will create a person page for him. If I remember right it will also create a page for his wife and parents.

Or on his PERSON page down on the bottom of the page is edit, click on that, that allows you to edit the page. Then enter their names under spouse and parents (that will create a FAMILY page for his parents. On the parents FAMILY page you can then enter in his siblings. Once you are happy with your edit, choose show preview, if you want to make a change do so in the edit box, once you are happy with the change choose save page.

Also for small changes check the "this is a minor edit, and in the box at the bottom make a small note on what changes you did to the page. Such as added parents, changed death date.

Hope this makes sense. Debbie Freeman --DFree 20:16, 3 May 2009 (EDT)

Help with editing pages [3 May 2009]

Hi Jeri, Welcome to WeRelate. I see that you have two family pages. Select edit on your family page and add the husband and select find/add. Then fill in the information. The find/add field exists to check and see if your person already has a page on WeRelate. Do the same with the wife. To add a spouse to the person page select edit and add spouse and follow the same steps. Hope this helps. --Volunteer Administrator-Beth 21:42, 3 May 2009 (EDT)

Question - please advise who this family is [27 July 2009]

Hello Jeri,

This is Debbie Freeman - User DFree. You did not mention the name of the family on this subject so it is hard to help you. Could you tell me which family you were talking about?

As for signing up on WeRelate, that I can help with. At some point you created a User name and password for WeRelate? Yes? Maybe so you could leave messages, etc? As for which family WeRelate relates to that is up to you, or your cousins, etc. One feature of WeRelate is that in time your ancestor will have only one page, so unlike say Rootsweb, or Ancestry who have multiple GEDCOM uploads of the same ancestor, with multiple pages. On WeRelate it will be a combined page contributed by all descendants. I hope I made some sense on explaining this unique feature of WeRelate.

If you have any more questions, or need some more help I and many others are here to help you. Debbie Freeman --DFree 11:34, 27 July 2009 (EDT)
