Last sentence has spelling mistake - "Othe" should be "Other".

This page is looking really good Dan! I especially like the idea about superscripts to footnotes at the bottom of the page, which would be citations with links to source pages.--Dallan 23:01, 18 March 2006 (MST)

Thanks for the encouragement. I'm mainly exploring what's possible. What I really like about this approach to my family trees is the care and attention I'm able to give to each individual. I'd say that this method of manual editing lends itself well to making sure things are documented well. I still need to go through and document each piece of information I have on this page. I really like how I can link each place name to the corresponding page about that place. Another possibility along those lines would be to link each date to the corresponding wikipedia date page (for example, Wikipedia's page for historical events that have happened on November 30
I've thought about that too. It would be pretty easy to do. In fact, check out [[Date:November 30|]], [[Date:1893|]], which results in November 30, 1893. A little cumbersome, but it's a step in that direction.--Dallan 13:03, 20 March 2006 (MST)
Rather than genealogy being about uploading and downloading dozens of GEDCOMS (and the resultant hours of match/merge, I can now just make small incrmental improvements. I can pursue family history research in a document/source-centric fashion, which is something I've been looking for for a while now. As I have new sources I receive, I can upload them here, and then begin to analyze which pieces of evidence that document provides. As I analyze the document I can link it to all related individuals (or link them to the document, rather), and the community as a whole benefits from my work, as it's all publically visible.
One thing we might want to consider is a "Repository:" namespace, which would provide us the ability to link each source to the repository (or repositories) in which that source can be found.

I've thought about having a repository namespace as well. Currently as you know, repositories are dumped in with sources. The main reason for this was that during the crawl I didn't have a good way to distinguish whether a web page was for a source or a repository. I think if we can get enough of community involvement to manually create reponsitories (perhaps in a few more months?), this would be a good idea.

A related discussion on a model for storing people pages is going on at Template_talk:Person. It would be great to get your thoughts on that topic.--Dallan 13:03, 20 March 2006 (MST)

Footnotes

It appears footnotes are interesting to other people too :-). It looks like MediaWiki already has several means of auto-numbering footnotes. See Wikipedia Footnotes --Dhanks 17:35, 24 March 2006 (MST)

Would you like me to install the Cite extension so you could try it out? By the way, I re-worked the about and help pages to make them more readable, and I added simple browse functionality. I'd be grateful if you wanted to review the pages and improve them.--Dallan 18:13, 26 March 2006 (MST)
That would be wonderful! I'd love to give it a spin. I'll take a look at the help pages and the browse caps too. Thanks for all your work! --Dhanks 00:48, 28 March 2006 (MST)
I tried installing Cite last night, but unfortunately it depends upon some code that has not yet been moved over to the "stable" (1.5.8) release of Mediawiki. Wikipedia runs on the latest (1.6) release of Wikimedia, but they don't recommend other sites using it yet. I'm not sure when it will get moved over, but I imagine within the next several months. I'll watch for it.--Dallan 12:10, 29 March 2006 (MST)

Great page

I am very impressed with your page. Do you mind me using it for an example when I demonstrate? It would be helpful if you had a little more bio data on Ephraim. do you have anything kthat could be cut and pasted into the article? Thanks --sq 17:29, 18 July 2006 (MDT)

Thanks. Feel free to use it. I've added a bit of content for a bigraphical sketch. Some time I should finish out the rest of the sections. --Dhanks 17:26, 21 July 2006 (MDT)
