I cannot figure out anything about Charles Holman's past. Here are the bits and pieces I have found, the certain bits are on his his brother's pages.
- He was born in Jamaica, Vermont
- He appeared in the 1850 census on his own (a boarder or laborer?) in a nearby town.
- He married Abrigail in 1854 in Vermont and moved to Illinoin in the same year, they moved around several times.
- He and his brother arrived in Kossuth county in 1866 and settled on section 20.
- His brother was a trustee on the founding of Portland township in 1870
- His brother is married to a woman named Fannie, but I can't reliably figure out her maiden name. Online trees (with no sources, of course) given several surnames: "White" and "Dean"
- His brother moved to Walla Walla washington after 1880 and died in 1897
