Tax Lists
11 Mar 1823-Sold his rights to his father's estate to James GEORGE for $76
The Illinois Regional Archive Repositories did not collect Tax Lists from the counties. Jersey County did not keep theirs. Land RecordThomas Flint appeared in the land office in Waidsboro, Kentucky 9 March 1827. He paid $80 for 160 acres of land in the northwest corner of section 34, township 3, range 4. The grant date was 28 December 1827. The land was assigned to Thomas McGrew. In the northwest corner of section 35 was the Flint Post Office. Benjamin W Flint was also in the county. The receipt date was in 1831 and the grant date was 5 December 1832. He paid $40 for 160 acres of land in the southwest corner of section 19, township 5, range 1. Miscelleneous recordsMarriage record Records SearchedLand records for Thomas FLINT in HypothesisIt appears Thomas went to Illinois during the War of 1812. His brother William was married 3 June 1818 in Gallatin County, Illinois. His brother John was married 7 June 1819 in White County (Hamilton County was part of White County at that time) Illinois. Thomas may have returned to Kentucky to assist his father with farming. After his father's death it appears he went to Illinois, then returned to Kentucky. It appears his sister Margaret was assisting her step-mother Elizabeth with the younger FLINT children. It appears that Margaret moved to Illinois, possibly to live with/near her brother William, as her step-mother was getting ready to move to Greene County, Illinois to live with her son Samuel THOMAS. Thomas FLINT remained in Kentucky, living in Calloway County. That is where Thomas McGrew, who raised Thomas' wife Nancy from infancy, lived. Thomas FLINT does not appear on the 1831 & 1832 tax in Calloway County. Thomas McGREW died in 1833. Thomas FLINT, whom I believe moved to "Egypt", Illinois may have returned to Kentucky at the time of Thomas McGREW's death, this may be the reason he appears on the 1833 tax list. In 1844 Grafton flooded. Everyone had to leave, many never returned.[1] Since there was a Flint Post Office in Calloway County, Kentucky near the land of Thomas McGrew, Thomas Flint may have been the owner of a general store. If he also had one when he lived in Grafton, Illinois, when the town was flooded, it may have resulted in him loosing his goods and occupation, he may then have moved to Hamilton County, Illinois to farm with his brother John Flint. Please see notes for William FLINT
