I'm the GGGGrandson of James Bankston and GGGrandson of Micajah Bankston of Red River County, Texas. My research stops at James because of a lack of paper documentation from the early 1800s.
However, as a result of participating in the Bankston Genome Project, through DNA analysis, I have definitely linked James and Micajah to the first "Bankston" to arrive in the Americas during the 1600s - Anders Bengtsson from Sweden.
Right now, my main focus is trying to discover the final resting place of James Bankston and his wife. Micajha Bankston's gravesite is also presently unknown as he died in the Federal hospital in Memphis, Tennessee of pneumonia during the Civil War while a POW - captured while a member of the 9th Texas Cavalry CSA, serving on detached duty in the Trans-Mississippi area. I do not know if his remains made it back to Red River County, Texas for burial.
Micajah Bankston had a son - Sam Houston Bankston. S.H. Bankston is my GGrandfather. He and his wife are buried in the Stith Cemetery, Jones County, Texas.
