Patrick McEnery, son of John McEnery and Ellen Barry, age 53, born in Ireland, living at 524 First Avenue, a widower, died 11 July 1919, buried in Calvary Cemetery.
Living on West 126th Street is Josephine Collins, age 36, b. U.S., 17 years in the U.S. [so was she born here?], running a lodging house, Living with her are her cousin, Mrs. Mary Shanahan, age 27, b. Ireland, 18 years in the U.S.; Mary's daughter Eileen, age 9, b. in the U.S.; and Josephine's cousin Patrick McEnery, [listed as "McHenry"], age 36, b. Ireland, 16 years in the U.S., a grocery clerk. Mrs. Mary Shanahan is Mary McEnery, daughter of Eugene McEnery and Mary Collins. Josephine Collins must be the daughter of a brother of Mary Collins. My first guess would be that Patrick is Mary's brother, but if I have my facts straight, Mary's brother Patrick married Margaret Shanahan in Jersey City in 1898.
In June of 1899, Mary Shanahan, age 25, Eileen Shanahan, age 2, and Josephine Clifford, age 5, left New York aboard the Majestic, and landed at Queenstown on 29 June 1899. The three were all identified as Irish (not foreigners.) They returned on the Majestic, arriving in New York on 21 September 1899, bringing with them Eugene (Mary Shanahan's father), age 55, from Newcastle west, Johanna Collins, age 30, Katie Shanahan, age 20, Mamie Clifford, age 9. They were going to join Eugene’s daughter, Mrs. Shanahan, living at 564 1st Street, Hoboken, NJ. How is Johanna Collins related to Josephine Collins, and how are they related to Eugene McEnery's wife, Mary Collins? 1911 Irish Census.
