Barclay, Florence Harlow (Mrs. John E.). "The Scate-Skeath Family of Boston: Rebecca, Wife of Ebenezer Allen of Bridgewater", in The American Genealogist. (Demorest, Habersham, Georgia, United States: D.L. Jacobus), Vol. 29, p. 88-9.

"Here again we probably have an error in reading the name, that of Shaw being very common in Weymouth and evidently being mistaken for Skate or Skath. There is ample proof that John Scate married Sarah Waters about this time and that she was the daughter of Lawrence1 Waters of Charlestown and Lancaster, Mass." Middlesex Probate 23904, quitclaim of Lawrence Waters Jr., Stephen Waters, John Skeathe, Joseph Waters, and Jacob Waters of their rights to estate of Adam Waters to Adam's father and mother.

The marriage record apparently being misread as John Shaw has caused confusion over the years until this was published in 1953. See 4:35 under John Scate and also John Scathe. --Jrich 21:07, 4 June 2016 (UTC)
