Defect 1

While not a proved defect, Jrich is highly dubious of attribution of the second wife of Caleb Brooks - Hannah - as sister of the first. His note, appearing on the page for Caleb Brooks:

The birth of son Ebenezer in 1669/70 names the mother Anna, and the birth of son Samuel in 1672 names her Hanna. Clearly, he had a second wife, but no marriage record seems to have been found. Savage, 1:259, says Caleb Brooks m. (1) Susanna Atkinson, m. (2) "Hannah, sis. of the former w.". It is not clear what evidence this assumption of their relationship is based on, but given the editor's note in TAG, it seems unlikely. Probably it is a misinterpretation of some connection to the Atkinson family that may be sufficiently explained solely based on the first wife, but not knowing how can we tell? Savage cites Shattuck, not necessarily in regards to this issue, but this is not where the information comes from, as p. 365 identifies first wife as Susannah Atkinson, and second wife as Ann ---. The identification of Hannah as sister of Susannah is unquestioningly repeated by Cutter, Crane and others (though not Ezra Stearns), none giving evidence.
