house lot 3 July 1636, brot. sev. ch. perhaps two or three. rem. a. 1652
to Taunton, where he took sec. w. 10 Dec. 1665, Elizabeth Streete, prob.
wid. of Francis. He, in his will of 28 Aug. 1683, call. hims. "eighty
yrs. or thereabout," pro. 6 Mar. foll. he ment. with these ch. of former
w. Thomas, John, Samuel, Sarah, Mary, and s.-in-law Joseph Willis,
perhaps h. of Sarah, and Sarah's s. Thomas. In Geneal. Reg. VI. 188,
it is print. Linton. THOMAS, Hingham, the cooper, s. of Thomas, in O. E.
had gr. in the town 1636, more likely, in my judgment, than either of
the preced. to have been the freem. of Mar. 1638, had, bef. com. from
Eng. m. 1630, a d. of Andrew[1] Lane, had two ch. of wh. one d. and the
other, Sarah, was brot. and d. soon aft. arr. and here had Thomas, bapt.
6 May 1638; Joseph, 22 Nov. 1640, bef. ment.; Benjamin, 7 May 1643,
bef. ment.; Deborah, 3 Aug. 1645; and Sarah, 6 Oct. 1650, d. young.
His w. wh. name is unkn. d. 13 Feb. 1683, and he d. 28 Sept. 1691.
His will, of 13 July 1688, names the four liv. ch. Deborah m. 13 June
1678, as sec. w. Samuel Thaxter. Tradit. brings him from West of
Eng. where he left br. John This may seem not improb. if we substitute
E. for W. The name belong. to Co. Norf'k. or the adj. Co. Lincoln.
THOMAS, Hingham 1638, the husbandman, br. of the first Stephen, prob.
younger, had gr. of ld. 1638, came, says the Cushing MS. in 1638 from
Wymondham, Co. Norf'k. with Jeremiah Moore, perhaps is the freem.
of 18 May 1642, had w. Margaret, d. of Richard Langer, and ch. Caleb,
bapt. 8 Oct. 1643, d. soon; Joshua and Caleb, tw. 2 Mar. 1645, of wh.
the latter, I think, liv. not long; Susanna; Mary, b. 10, bapt. 23 Apr.
1648; Sarah, 29 Sept. bapt. 6 Oct. 1650; Thomas, 26 Dec. 1652;
Elizabeth and Ruth, b. 19 Nov. 1664. He d. 16 Aug. 1692; but his will, of
24 May 1681, names the w. and eight ch. His d. Susanna m. 16 May
1666, to Joseph Barstow of Scituate; Mary m. 5 Jan. 1675, Francis
Barker of Duxbury; Sarah m. 6 May 1675, Thomas Marsh; Elizabeth m. 23
Jan. 1678, Daniel Lincoln, bef. ment.; and Ruth, m. Jan. 1685, Samuel
Gill. It seems very curious, that at our Hingham, within the first three
yrs. of its sett. should be found four heads of fams. nam. Thomas Lincoln,
and yet at Hingham in O. E. where this fam. name was quite freq. not
one Thomas occurs in the rec. from 1600 to 1663 incl. neither as f. nor
s. among ms. 15 in number, of wh. 8 were of males, nor among 28 bur.
nor among, 62 bapt. Clearly the other parishes of Co. Norf'k. had the
name of bapt. in greater abund. for males of this surname. THOMAS,
Taunton, s. of Thomas, the miller, of Hingham, b. in Eng. had Mary, b.
12 May 1652; Sarah, 25 Sept. 1654; Thomas, 21 Apr. 1656; Samuel,
16 Mar 1658; Jonah, 7 July 1660; Hannah, 15 Mar. 1663; d. Contant,
16 May 1665; Elizabeth 24 Apr. 1669; and Mercy, 3 Apr. 1670.
Constant m. 13 July 1687, William Briggs; Hannah m. 23 Dec. 1689,
