May 1679, her sis. Hannah, had John, 16 Mar. 1680; Edward, 16 Nov.
1683, d. young; rebecca, 14 Mar. 1685; Martha, 21 Dec. 1686; or
Sarah, 28 Feb. 1687; perhaps Dorothy, 20 Feb. 1688; and Edward,
again, 2 Oct. 1691. He d. 16 Dec. 1694; and his wid. d. 17 Dec. 1700,
but one tradit. is that she m. a Paine. Perhaps he lib. at Muddy riv.
and so the Roxbury rec. was neglect. JOHN, Roxbury, s. of John third
of the same, m. 4 Nov. 1676, Mary, d. of John May, had Mary, b. 24
Sept. foll. d. young; Hannah, 15 July 1680; Mary, again, 23, bapt. 25
Dec. 1681; Sarah, 28 Feb. 1687, unless it should be Martha, 21 Dec.
1686; and perhaps Dorothy, 20 Feb. 1688; and I am unable to discrimin.
by the rec. Great care was need. among the earlier Johns; but of the
last two, I kn. not wh. was the freem. of 1690. Four, five or six different
ones are call. junrs. and sometimes both deaths and marriages are inadeq.
guides; for I greatly fear that both Hannah and Martha, was. of
one or the other John, as also part of their childr. respective, are here
interchangeab. confus. NATHANIEL, Boston, a mariner, whose f. I cannot
trace, unless he were s. of Samuel the first of Roxbury, n his will
of wh. I discov. not the date, but it was pro. 15 Dec. 1702, aft. commit.
his "soul into the hands of my Creator and Redeemer the Ld. Jesus
Christ," a strange confusion of terms guarded against by the creed of
St. Athanasius, he gives to his "mo. Ann and to Sarah Paine, my
intend. w. all my est. in R." and makes Joseph Belknap, jr. and William
Paine excors. * SAMUEL, Roxbury, s. of Thomas, brot. from Eng. by
his f. m. 10 Jan. 1655. Hannah, d. of George Fowle of Charlestown, had

1669; in that yr. his w. d. 24 Oct. and d. Hannah d. on 6 Nov. and d.
Sarah d. on 16 Nov. of the same yr. He m. 16 May 1670, Ann, d. of
Henry Bright of Watertown, had Thomas, b. 10, bapt. 12 Mar. 1671;
Ann, 30 Sept. bapt. 6 Oct. 1672; Nathaniel, 22, bapt. 29 Nov. 1674, d.
young; Elizabeth b. 1 May, 1677; Henry, 7 July 1681 d. at 21 yrs.; and
Huldah, 4, bapt. 6 July 1684; was lieut. rep. 1689-92, and d. 15 Aug.
1692; and his wid. d. 5 Sept. 1711. Full relat. of his being struck by
lightning, 1666, while driv. a team, of wh. the cattle were all k. is seen
in Mather�s Remarka. Providen. 78. SAMUEL, Boston, s. of George,
a weaver, in his will of 22 Dec. 1689, pro. 12 June 1697, names w.
