1652; Samuel; James; and Mary; but rem. bef. 1669 to Stratford, and may have
had ch. at both places. His w. was Deborah, d. of John Peacock. Perhaps she
was mo. of all the ch. but he had 17 Oct. 1661, m. Ann, wid. of John Wakefield.

wh. we may suppose were bapt. 18 Jan. 1646, if the town rec. were authority
instead of the rec. of ch. in wh. no such thing is found; Martha, b. 25 Apr.
1648; Hannah, 23 Dec. 1649; James, bapt. 11 Apr. 1652; Samuel, 9
Apr. 1654; John, 23 Mar. 1656; Abigail, 21 Mar. 1658; Mercy, 2
Sept. 1660; Aaron, 1 Mar. 1663; beside one d. that m. Walter Morse,
as we learn from the will of her f. provid. for, but not nam. her. He d.
18 Dec. 1674. JAMES, New Haven, s. of James the first, was adm.
freem. 1660, at Stratford, had James, b. 12 Feb. 1665; Sarah, 11 Jan.
1667; John, 17 Mar. 1669; Phebe, 15 Jan July 1675; Isaac, 9 Jan. 1678,
d. soon; Isaac, again, 25 Sept. 1679; and Mary, 10 Jan. 1687. JAMES,
Newport, youngest s. of the Hon. Jeremiah, m. Hope, a. of Nicholas
Power of Providence, had Hope, b. 29 Dec. 1673; and Jonathan, a.
1681. He was a preach. but I kn.no more of him exc. that he d. 7
Dec. 1736, aged 87. JAMES, Roxbury, s. of James bef. ment.
m. 27 Apr. 1681, Hannah, d. of Peleg Heath, had James, b. 4 Feb.
1682. His w. d. 30 May 1683, and he rem. to Cambridge, m. 24
Sept. 1685, Sarah, d. of Samuel Champney, had Sarah, b. next yr. wh.
d. at 21 yrs.; Ebenezer, d. soon; Mercy, 18 Dec. 1690; Abigail, 31
May 1703; but betw. the last two prob. came Rachel and Benjamin,
yet precise dates can hardly be found, as rec. fail in this space of time.
JEREMIAH, Newport 1640, had been at Portsmouth, on the upper end
of the isl. 1638, bef. N. was sett. was first constable of the town,
treasur. of the Col. 1647, and Assist. 1648, when he was chief officer. He was
not, as often said, br. nor even any kn. relat. of John, the well reput. f.
of the Col. and d. Jan. 1652, leav. five s. Walter, b. a. 1639; Jeremiah;
Latham; Weston, 2 July 1648; James, 1649; beside four ds. of wh.
prob. two were older than Walter, Frances, wh. m. Randall Holden; and
ano. the first w. of James Barker; Mary, b. 1641, wh. m. Gov. John
Cranston, and, next, John Stanton, and d. 7 Apr. 1701; and Sarah,
1651, wh. perhaps was sec. w. of Peter Carr. JEREMIAH, Newport, s.
of the preced. m. says the fam. geneal. Ann Audley. She may have been
Hannah Odlyn, d. of John of Boston, wh. had much sympathy with the
R. I. first sett. as hav. with most of them been ill treat. by the governm.
of Mass. in Nov. 1637, for their errors in religious dogmas. To ea. of
his ch. Susanna, Henry, James, Samuel, Weston, Frances, Mary, Ann,
and Sarah are supplied ws. or hs. respectiv. by the fam. docum. but without
names appended. JOHN, Cambridge, freem. 6 Nov. 1632, rem. 1636,
to Hartford with Hooker, thence, perhaps, to Milford, where his a. Elizabeth m.
William Pratt of H. JOHN, Boston, came, perhaps, with John Winthrop
jr. in the Lion 1631, join. the ch. early, only seven names on the venera.
