w. Hannah, and her d. Hannah m. William Raymond. His sec. w. was
Bridget Oliver.--also, aft. Sarah add Wild, d. of William of Ipswich. With
his w. Sarah he was imprison. on charge of witchcraft, Apr. 1692, yet, happily,
they were not too old to escape by break. gaol, for wh. their prop. was seiz. and
by s. Samuel redeem. He went to Rehoboth, where no witchcr. was thot. of. Felt
calls the name Edmund once, but in three places after gives it as here. One
Bridget B. w. of his f. no doubt, of the same town had been charg.
with the same damnable offence in 1680; when the great adversary was
foil. but he easily prevail. with the judges, in June 1692, when the poor
woman was so much more infirm, to consent to her being hanged.
HENRY, Newport 1639. HENRY, New Haven, took o. of fidel.
1644, and was farmer for Rev. John Davenport. His w. Patience
d. 24 July 1655; and his s. John d. 1661, unm. HENRY, Ipswich,
perhaps br. of Nathaniel, m. at Boston, 20 Feb. 1657, wid. Elizabeth
Wilbore, and d. bef. 1664. JAMES, New Haven 1648, was secr. of the
Col. 1651, rep. 1665 in the first sess. after the union with Conn. Assist.
1668, and Dep. Gov. 1683 until his d. 22 June 1691; but rec. says 24 June
1692. He had b. at Branford, Hannah, 29 May, bapt. at N. H. 1 June 1651;
others b. at N. H. Grace, 17 Jan. 1653, bapt. prob. 20 Feb. foll. certain. not 30,
as print. in Geneal. Reg. IX. 358; Sarah, 28, bapt. 29 July 1655; Elizabeth 3 July
1657, not seen among, the bapt.; Abigail, 30 Oct. 1659, bapt. 22 Jan.
foll.; John, 17 May 1662, not seen among the bapt.; Ruth, 22 Nov. 1664,
bapt. 12 Dec. foll. the w. Mary having d. 26 Nov. He m. 12 Dec. 1665,
Elizabeth d. of Micah Tompkins of Milford, and had Samuel 21, bapt. prob.
25 Nov. 1666; Mary, b. 14 Mar. 1669; James, 27 July 1671; and Rebecca,
10 Dec. 1673. His wid. d. 25 Oct. 1703. All the eleven ch. are
nam. in his will. Some of the days giv. for bapt. in Geneal. Reg.
we kn. are wrong, bec. they were not Sundays, and exc. on this day no
such cerem. could be perform. as by Davenport hims. we may be taught,
in 3 Mass. Hist. Coll. X. 61. In those cases the nearest first day of the

was liv. 1710, and Winsor, as his ch. counts Ebenezer, Abigail, John, and
Hudson. JAMES, New Haven, youngest s. of James the first, m. 11 Dec.
1695, Abigail Bennett, had Elizabeth b. 6 Dec. foll.; Mary 1 June 1698; James,
4 Oct. 1700; Rebecca, 29 Nov. 1703; Abigail, 1 Sept. 1707; Ruth, 19
May 1709; and Joy, 28 May 1711. He prob rem. to Stamford. JOB, Ipswich
1648, s. of Thomas of the same, m. Elizabeth d. of Rev. George Phillips
one that he brot. from Eng. had prob. only Elizabeth wh. d. 27 Feb. 1652;
but by sec. w. had Dinah, b. 19 June 1657; Sarah, 19 May 1659; and
Hannah, 24 Dec. 1662. JOHN, Newbury, a carpenter, m. Oct. 1647,
Rebecca, wid. of Samuel Scullard, wh. may have d. in Eng. and d. of
Richard Kent of N. had John, b. 19 Sept. 1648; Rebecca, 15 May
1650; Joanna, 24 Apr. 1652; Hannah, 10 Dec. 1653; Eliz. 31 Aug.
1655, d. next yr.; Jonathan, 11 Jan. 1657; Noah, 20 June 1658; and
David, 26 Aug. 1660; rem. first to Nantucket, thence, with other neighb.
1667, to found the town of Woodbridge, N. J. from wh. he was the first
rep. in the Assemb. 1668, under Gov. Carteret a counsel. 1672, and d.
1684. His s. John, of Rahway, was of Gov. Hamilton's counc. 1693.
