Registers of Marriages Solemnized in the Parish of Potter Hanworth, 1754–1837
Notes
Beginning in 1754, banns of marriage and marriages by banns or licences were recorded in register books containing preprinted forms. This index contains all marriages at the parish church of Potter Hanworth from 1754 until about the start of civil registration in 1837. Banns of marriage are only included when no corresponding marriage was recorded. Beginning in 1813, marriages were recorded in a new register which had forms that no longer contained the descriptions of the banns of marriage.
The first marriage in the third volume was recorded in the following form (hand-written portion is italicized):
№ 1 Banns of Marriage between William Peacock of ye Parish of Potterhanworth & Alice Black of ye Parish of Bardney was published June ye 30 July ye 7th & 14th 1754[.] The said William Peacock widower of the Parish of Potterhanworth and Alice Black widow of the Parish of Bardney were Married in this Church by Banns this Twenty Second Day of July in the Year One Thousand Seven Hundred and Fifty Four by me J Curtois Rector[.] This Marriage was solemnized between Us { William Peacock [and] Alice PeacockBlack In the Presence of Wm C Cropper [and] Phillip X Touth his mark [and] Robert How[.]
In the table, surnames have been placed in separate columns to allow users to sort by only the surname; they may be regularized to allow better sorting results. The form of the name in actual signatures is preferred, but significant variants in the record may appear in parentheses. When an individual made his mark, it is indicated by a plus sign (+). Parish and other place names may appear in a corrected form. Counties are abbreviated, and Lincolnshire is omitted. The records are by default ordered by date of marriage, and the dates are presented in a sortable format. The Family page of the couple being married may be linked if the page has been created.
